February 14, 1951 recording played back on 1949 Webster-Chicago "Electronic Memory" wire recorder.
Notes
The recording was contained on an old spool of recording wire that I picked up in 2007.
It's a recording of a live jazz performance, performer and selections unknown. The recording was probably made in New Jersey. If you can provide any identification, please leave a review.
Some notes on noise reduction: A rather nasty 60 cycle hum and harmonics present at some places in the recording were aggressively notched out. A frequency analysis of the program material indicated little or no intelligence below 100 Hz or above 8 kHz, so low and high shelf filters were applied to remove these areas of the frequency spectrum since they contained only noise.
The quality of the recording is variable. It sounds surprisingly good in some places and not so good in others. I am preserving this early recording here in the hope it might prove to be of interest to someone one day.
